The founding story Yike Pan
"After years as an engineer and lighting designer, the moment that changed everything came: a sunny spring day. After hours of intensive lighting design, I stepped out of a perfectly lit building into the open air – and felt the warmth and energy of the real sun. That's when I realized: No artificial light can replace what nature gives us. But if we can't change our lifestyle immediately, we need a special kind of light to complement it – heilys® . "
I've worked with light for over 20 years – from electrical engineering and architectural lighting to international projects for hotels, airports, and offices. My goal has always been to make artificial light as perfect as possible. But this very pursuit of perfection revealed a problem: the better the lighting became indoors, the more time we humans spent inside – and the less of the light our bodies truly need.
In my research, I discovered that light is not merely a design element, but an essential nutrient. Certain wavelengths, especially in the red and near-infrared range, can stimulate our cells to produce more energy. This influences regeneration, metabolism, and well-being—on a level we cannot see, but can feel.
With heilys, I've built a bridge: between scientific precision and everyday practicality. Every product is developed to function with technical precision – from the wavelength and optics to safe, durable manufacturing. Because only precise light can trigger the same effects in the body as nature intended.
My vision: a future in which light is understood as a natural component of health – as commonplace as clean water or fresh air.

Dr. Eduard Van Wijk
Dr. Van Wijk has a background in cognitive and biological psychology. He worked as a senior researcher at the International Institute of Biophysics and subsequently conducted research in analytical biosciences at Leiden University .
Today he is responsible for the field of biophotonics at MELUNA Research in relation to health, lifestyle and disease.

Dr. Yan studied biology at Hangzhou University in China and received his doctorate from the University of Mainz in Germany. After completing his doctorate, he dedicated himself to biophoton research and biophotonics .
Since 2009, he has been part of MELUNA Research and specializes in NIR, Raman, and UV/VIS spectroscopy . As a senior researcher, he plays a key role in the development of new measurement and analysis technologies .

This ensures that every heilys® device produces light that can act at the cellular level – while remaining comfortable and suitable for everyday use.

Our devices are manufactured with the utmost care. Engineers from our team oversee production on-site at our partner factories, inspecting every assembly and ensuring that all materials are durable, safe, and sustainable. From selecting flicker-free LEDs with precisely tuned wavelengths, to optics with optimized beam angles, to robust housings and user-friendly operation – every detail is carefully chosen. This is the only way we can develop products that are both technologically advanced and reliable in everyday use.
3| Quality control
Before a heilys® device leaves our facility, it undergoes a multi-stage testing process. Every single product is tested for electrical safety, performance, and optical parameters – not just random samples. Our quality inspectors compare the results with our internal design guidelines, which are stricter than many common standards.
